Dr. Paul Stricker is one of just over 200 doctors in the US who is board-certified in both sports medicine and pediatrics, and he is enthusiastic about the opportunities for young people and their families to have a positive experience with sports and exercise. He was among the first group of physicians to acquire the pediatric sub-specialty certification in 1993, and Dr. Paul reached a unique and coveted position as a physician for the U.S. delegation at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, and was the first pediatrician to be selected by the U.S. Olympic Committee for the summer Olympic Games. He is a previous President of the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine, and is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on Sports Medicine & Fitness. He has been chosen as one of America’s Top Pediatricians and America’s Best Doctors, and has authored numerous medical publications as well as a book for parents and coaches entitled Sports Success Rx!—Your Child’s Prescription for the Best Experience. Dr Paul has been cited in such national publications as US News & World Report, USA Today, parenting magazines, and has been featured on ESPN, Good Morning America, Nightline, and other television programs discussing ways to increase activity and decrease sports pressure for children and teenagers.
He graduated from University of Missouri Science & Technology with a B.S. in Life Science, and achieved NCAA All-American status in swimming. He received his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine, and then spent a year as a Big Brother in a home for troubled teens. After a pediatric residency at Arkansas Children’s Hospital, he completed his subspecialty training in sports medicine at UCLA. He currently practices sports medicine at the internationally recognized Scripps Clinic in San Diego, CA.
His professional accomplishments on the national and international sports scene have included the position of team physician for the U.S. Olympic Committee, and for the U.S. National Teams for swimming, soccer, gymnastics, and basketball. Following the 1995 U.S. Olympic Festival and 1997 World University Games, he was appointed as Head Physician for the 1999 World University Games. He also served USA Swimming at the World Championships, Pan-Pacific Championships, and the 2000 Olympic Trials. He also completed 10 years as the lead medical consultant for the Arco Olympic Training Center. Inspired to have an impact on the rising amount of negative pressure in youth sports, Dr. Stricker is the President and Founder of his company called Youth Sports Awareness Enterprise, LLC, which has a primary focus to be a resource for parents, teachers, and coaches to gain more knowledge through consultation services, educational lectures, and his book.
